The village of Finmere sits on the borders of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, with a section of the Roman Road running
through the eastern boundary of the village. It is generally understood that the name "Finmere" means "pool frequented by woodpeckers" (source - The New Oxfordshire Village Book)
St Michael & All Angels church is situated in a slightly elevated position, up a small track, off the "Y" junction formed by Valley road, Fullwell road and Water Stratford road.
The original church was built in the 13th. century, but the current church dates back to the 14th century and features a unique
17th century clock, housed in the bell tower. In addition, details of the church organ,
manufactured between 1799 - 1822, may be found in the National Pipe Organ Register
A complete history of Finmere can be found on the British History Online web site.
Additionally, a publication entitled "A walk round Finmere Church", written by Alan D Jones, is available
from the church
